PEOPLE

As evidenced by the expertise of MIT faculty, the careers of MIT alumni, and the strong interests of current students throughout the Institute, there are many people at MIT dedicated to housing. The MIT Housing Group is comprised principally of students from the Department of Urban Studies and Planning (DUSP), the Department of Architecture, the Center for Real Estate, and the Sloan School of Management.
For further information on resources and faculty at MIT visit the internal resources page. Details on the careers of MIT alumni will be posted shortly. See the following for MHG leadership.

2007-2008 Co-Chairs

Cali Gorewitz, MCP '08

"I am interested in serving as co-chair of the Housing Group 2007-2008. I believe we need an innovative national housing policy that provides incentives for employer-assisted housing, community land trusts, and prioritizes affordable housing near transit. As co-chair, I will help transform the Housing Group into an active and exciting student group. We will continue to provide a space for discussions with the most innovative national housers, while also encouraging active student debate.

Prior to coming to DUSP I worked in the Bay Area on affordable housing and transit-oriented development. I served on the board of directors of the San Francisco Community Land Trust and worked on the first acquisition and development. At the Center for Transit-Oriented Development I worked on several policy papers for national foundations, cities, and the Department of Housing and Urban Development. I am in HCED and participated in the Federal Home Loan Bank Affordable Housing Development Corporation this semester."

Erica Sims, MBA '08

"In addition to continuing the speaker series and other events started last year by Ari, I want to encourage discussion and debate amongst Group members themselves. We have a variety of backgrounds and therefore ample opportunity to learn from one another. An MIT Housing Group should be interdisciplinary in nature so as to draw on the various areas of expertise throughout the MIT graduate community. It is important to me that we reach out to and engage all members of the academic community in this organization and I want to see that as an important part of the Group's work next year."

Erica is pursuing her MBA at the Sloan School of Management with a focus on real estate development. Prior to MIT, she worked for Benjamin Development in Long Island, NY. She also served as project director for the Arverne by the Sea development in Queens, NY during her tenure at the New York City Department of Housing Preservation and Development (HPD), before which she was a New York City Urban Fellow. She holds a BA in Economics from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor.
