INTERNAL RESOURCES

The Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) is an amazing resource for students, faculty, and practitioners interested in housing policy, design, finance, and development. Graduate students throughout the Department of Urban Studies and Planning (DUSP), the Center for Real Estate (CRE), the Department of Architecture, and other programs have both a breadth of experience in the housing field as well as a range of interests in the housing sector as academics and practitioners. Likewise, faculty and administrators throughout the school have held top posts and accomplished nationally acclaimed works in the housing field. However, until now, there has been no organized student group dedicated to housing. Hence, this section will list academic and professional housing related resources at MIT.

Faculty Audit

Among other qualifications, current MIT faculty hold claim to many accomplishments and positions of leadership in the housing sector. These include award winning housing designers and developers, leading housing scholars and authors, the current editor of the Journal of Housing Economics and members of the editorial board of Housing Policy Debate. Additionally, members of the MIT faculty have held posts such as chief planning officer at the Boston Redevelopment Authority, director of housing development for Boston's Model Cities program, Assistant Director of the Harvard-MIT Joint Center for Housing Studies, manager of the New York City Housing Authority, and Assistant Secretary for Policy and Research at HUD. What follows is a non-exhaustive glimpse of faculty with explicit interests and work in the housing arena.
