Transportation in DUSP |
BROADER COMMUNITY
- Cambridge
The City of Cambridge, home to MIT and many MIT students, is a unique place to see transportation innovation in action. Cambridge has old and
new bike lanes, traffic calming efforts, a focus on transportation and land use, and many interesting problems to examine formally or
informally as a student.
- Boston
The City of Boston, a short walk, bike, bus or subway ride away from MIT is a major American city with a unique transportation history. Students can gain insight into the unique multimodal transportation infrastructure, history, and politics. The city and region are consistently examining new ways to improve, implement, and finance transportation projects.
- BRA
The Boston Redevelopment Authority is the planning and economic development arm of the City. The BRA undertakes transportation-related projects such as street design, transportation master planning, and urban form. Several DUSP students intern at the BRA during the academic year or over the summer.
- MAPC
The Metropolitan Area Planning Council is the regional planning agency for the Boston region making decisions about regional growth and investment. They work with 22 cities and 79 towns in the Boston region and are located in Boston.
- Volpe National Transportation Systems Center
The Volpe Center works as a fee-for-service organization within the US DOT. Their work is wide-ranging across the field of transportation, but has some particular research areas such as environmental modeling, operations assessment, and community outreach that may be of interest to DUSP students.
- Boston MPO/CTPS
The Boston MPO makes decisions about federally-funded investments about transportation. The Central Transportation Planning Staff provides the technical and policy analysis required to make the decisions for the Boston region.
