Date: Wed, 26 Apr 1995 11:52:09 EDT good morning walter mansell - i didn't know mitch wolfe had moved on, but i guess i'll tell you myself that if you're legitimately short-handed around telecomm these days, i'd like to pitch-in to help get institute lobby phones working or components replaced or entire instruments. i was once, long ago, very interested in telephony, and once-in-a-while i think: `i can fix this stuff!' ... but of course i also assume there'd be a union snit if you were to agree to mit people helping out. however, in light of re-engineering, etc, i'll bet that in future, recruiting old timers like me and students might be not-so-far over-the-horizon. telecomm systems in a place like this might even even make for a prerty interesting AND useful undergraduate seminar perhaps with mort berlan as seminar leader. (maybe i'll cc this to dean travis merritt and mort before i decide it's too futuristic :) thanks for your help! - r richard shyduroff e15-443, x3-2000, h: 864-4039 -------- From: rdshydur@MIT.EDU Message-Id: <9504261523.AA19482@carbonara.MIT.EDU> To: crimbite@MIT.EDU (Cheryl deJong Vossmer) Cc: rdshydur@MIT.EDU Subject: broken institute phone's, was Re: Letter Bomb Announcement In-Reply-To: Your message of "Wed, 26 Apr 1995 10:53:04 EST." Date: Wed, 26 Apr 1995 11:23:26 EDT good morning cheryl - thanks for your important message. i have one growing concern about finding more-and-more broken _institute lobby_ phones in various well-travelled locations. for _months_ the phone on the ground floor level of the media lab, e15, aka: the weisner building, at 20 ames street, has been non-operative. for _weeks_ the phone at the intersection of buildings 5 & 1, on the first floor, by the mass. ave. wheel chair lift, has been non-operative. and the other day i noted that the phone under the stair well where buildings 8 and 16 meet, is also non-operative. some time ago i mentioned the e15 phone to telecomm, and i'm sure that as commencement season nears they'll all be fixed, BUT, in light of precautions we should all be taking and in case of heaven-forbid, any worse-possible-case situation arising that would be faster reported if those telephone instruments were functioning, i'd like to pass this request onward through you personally because i think you can probably get the work done instantly. in case there is a legitimate too-high work load for telecomm to be able to effect these repairs quickly, i'd like to volunteer some extra hours-per-week to help telecomm with replacing those instruments and getting them working again, a.s.a.p. maybe i'll send mitch wolfe a note to that effect. hastily, but sincerely, - r richard shyduroff e15-443, x3-2000, h: 864-4039 .
