The Jerry Lemelson Fellowship Program (description excerpted from a larger write-up, courtesy of MIT E-Club member Jamie Rosen, Harvard '92, who is applying for Feb '94 acceptance, with a little assist from us. (others with additional information on this new program might send that along for possible inclusion in an update and review of the first year activities of the Fellowship from our perspective. send to , thanks!) -------- The Fellowship for which I'm applying is called The Lemelson, and is funded by the successful inventor, Jerry Lemelson. The purpose is to promote entrepreneurism, innovation, and invention among today's college students. The Fellowship, which is brand new, funds several students' tuition for one or two semesters at Hampshire College in Amherst (Massachusetts), to become part of a faculty-sponsored creative team working on creative solutions to real-world problems. The Fellowship is part of a larger program, The Lemeleson National Program in Invention, Innovation and Creativity. Two other components of this program are to "create a national network of colleges and universities that will champion innovation and the link between invention and the United States' ability to compete in a global market; and to establish a National Inventors' Symposium that will showcase the best work of students who participate in the Lemelson Program and bring these inventors together with potential investors." I am among the first pool of applicants, applying to begin February, 1994. Qualifications for the Fellowship include "a strong academic record; intellectual curiosity; a willingness to explore new ideas; and an interest in invention and entrepreneurship." Technical or scientific background is not required. -------- For further information, please contact the Fellowship office directly at Hampshire College: The Lemelson Fellowships Hampshire College Amherst, Massachusetts 01002 fax: 413-256-1436 ( ...current applications are due wed, 15 dec, 1993 ... rdshydur )
