We had a wonderful call today from Bob Elmore, head of Business Systems Consulting at Arthur Andersen, and their new "knowledge officer," who has agreed to be a MassNet sponsor. Bob is a great guy (and, minor plug here, the genius who came up with the subtitle for Jeff's and my new book, THE AGE OF THE NETWORK: ORGANIZING PRINCIPLES FOR THE 21st CENTURY). He's quite interested in the ideas that we're all espousing. And....Jeff and I had a fabulous meeting with Frank Reece at noon today. Highly recommend having lunch with Frank--he's a vibrant, committed person in so many ways--Boston Chamber of Commerce's 1993 Entrepreneur of the Year. Next steps from our meeting with Frank. US TeleCenters, his firm, will take the lead in arranging the video link for Peter Drucker and Harry Saal. Bill Benoit, who works with Frank, will be the techie on the project. Welcome, Bill. On Dec. 6, Frank and Jan Nickerson will present MassNet to the Mass. Software Council at the invitation of Joyce Plotkin, exec director of the Council. This upcoming presentation has gotten Jeff to agree to put together a set of overheads that anyone in the group can use for a similar presentation. Keep your fingers crossed, folks, that the Software Council will agree to become a sponsor. Please let Jeff know if you'd like a copy of the overheads. Frank is also attending a meeting of the Mass. Telecomm Council on Dec. 7th. Hopefully, that meeting, along with the interest from others who've been reading mail here (and the "site visit" from the group's representative to the Design Day meeting) will result in them too being willing to sponsor. Cathy Cordes has completed the registration form. All that it awaits is the final decision on which organization will receive the funds for the event. Two non-profits have offered to serve as interim homes for MassNet. We expect a decision by Monday on this. And, as you all know from the mail you've been receiving here, Richard Dale is hard at work rationalizing the invite list. As an indication of how much interest there is in MassNet, this anecdote: we attended the morning session of a one-day workshop on manufacturing networks in Mass today. I asked for a few minutes to talk about MassNet--spoke for no more than 2 minutes and was swamped with business cards from people in the room who are interested. A very good sign. Finally, remember these dates: Wed., Dec. 14, 1994, 1-4 PM at the Computer Museum--MassNet planning session. Community building dinner, Fri, Dec. 2, 1994, 6 PM, at Jeff's and my house. This is a change of dates--please note--and be sure to let us know if you can join us. Under heavy rains in Boston, Jessica
