Will it suffice? Dear Friend, We invite you to join a group of forward-looking leaders and change agents who will meet in a working session at Boston's Computer Museum on January 23, 1995, to launch MASSNET: COLLABORATION FOR THE COMMONWEALTH. This initiative promises to give Massachusetts businesses, organizations, and communities the collaborative know-how, supported by technology, to realize our region's promise in "the age of the network." Current charter sponsors of this event include Arthur Andersen, CFM, Inc., Greater Boston Chamber of Commerce, The Computer Museum, CSC Index, EarthWeb, Interaction Associates, MIT Community Fellows Program, The Networking Institute, The Prosperity Collaborative, Steelcase Boston, US TeleCenters, and volunteers from the Boston Computer Society. Professor Peter Drucker, the founding father of modern management, will deliver an interactive keynote address by video-teleconference from California. Rosabeth Moss Kanter, author and Harvard Business School professor, will deliver the opening address. Due to the knowledge power of our region, BUSINESS WEEK recently identified Massachusetts as one of two key nerve centers of the new economy. Along with Silicon Valley, Massachusetts needs an accessible electronic network that ties together our business, civic, and community organizations. More important, we need to learn how to effectively use our collective knowledge and build collaboration. The purpose of this one-day meeting is to engage a start-up team to explore how Massachusetts might forge a coalition of committed leaders and change agents to direct the state into the 21st century. One model we will draw on is Smart Valley, Silicon Valley's business-led effort to benefit the whole community. They seek to revitalize education, address health care cost and quality, make local government more responsive, connect people, keep business, and create jobs. This promises to be the first of a series of rich learning and networking experiences, full of valuable ideas, business connections, and opportunities to think beyond our normal boundaries. Please join us for this strategic opportunity on Monday, January 23, 1995, at the Computer Museum from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM. Registration is limited to 200. To obtain a registration form, please send an e-mail message to Cathy Cordes at .
