Our final meeting at the Computer Museum yesterday, attended by 20 people who trudged through our first real snow storm to get there, was our most productive yet. Everything is in place--save the completion of all the "Action Items" that we generated. But there are no big problems, no outstanding zingers just waiting to wreck the whole event. We've even developed contingency plans, thanks to Jan Nickerson, who stepped us through the "what ifs"--if the PictureTel link to Dr. Drucker fails, we'll have a video of him. If Rosabeth Moss Kanter can't make it, Jeff and I will have our "Age of the Network" presentation with us. If Harry Saal can't be beamed in at the last minute, Nova Spivack will do the Smart Valley piece. If I am suddenly taken ill, there's always Jeff... On numbers, it seems quite clear that we will "sell out," in the best sense of the word, of course. The Museum holds 200 so that's the number we're going with. All we can do after 200 is take names. SO IF ANY OF YOU STILL PLANS TO COME AND HAS NOT SIGNED UP, BEWARE! (Despite the caps, I think I'm hopeless at being threatening.) Our last community building dinner takes places tomorrow, Fri, Jan. 13 at 6 PM at Jeff's and my house. We have some newcomers joining us and no agenda that has to be worked, so this should be pure fun. And the press release goes out on Mon, Jan. 16, thanks to Lisa Fisher, who is also coordinating plans for our book party at the close of MassNet. The participant list is just amazing, as you can see from Cathy Cordes's postings. We got to preview the draft directory yesterday, again thanks to Cathy--you can't pay for the kind of effort that Cathy has put in, faxing, e-mailing and registering people flawlessly--with everyone's titles and their experiences with collaborative efforts. An eclectic, diverse, unusually interesting group of people. David Stephenson reminded us that we made a decision back in September to use our networks--rather than traditional marketing mechanisms, such as renting mailing lists and designing fancy brochures--to attract the people who would want to be there. It has worked. And, on a shoestring, I might add. We wasted no time raising $ and in the end, the generosity and commitment of the nearly 50 folks involved in MassNet are what have funded this event. Great modeling, friends, of exactly the message we're trying to send. Now, we all have to pray that there's no raging snowstorm on Jan. 22. But we even have a contigency plan for that. Unless the museum declares itself completely closed, MassNet will take place. Take care, Jessica PS: If you want to send something out to the whole list, reply to this message, sending to all recipients. To the best of my knowledge, this list is correct, with duplications removed. ************************************************************ Jessica Lipnack The Networking Institute, Inc. 505 Waltham Street, West Newton, MA 02165 USA Tel: 617/965-3340 Fax: 617/965-2341 E-mail: teamnet@world.std.com ************************************************************
