I am a doctoral candidate in political science and public policy at the University of Colorado at Boulder, where I am writing a dissertation on problem definition and policy learning processes using the case of school violence policy making to illustrate institutional constraints on policy makers' ability to learn over time. I teach comparative politics at CU, and have worked as a policy consultant with the Education Commission of the States in Denver. My interests include education policy at all levels, the study of comparative political culture and institutions, evaluation of school violence policy alternatives, and nonviolence theory and practice. I trained as a mediator with CDR Associates in Boulder, am beginning to volunteer in the community as a mediator, and have volunteered with the Colorado School Mediation Project at conferences and as a peer mediation coach in the schools. I am interested in furthering the study and promotion of mediation as a nonviolent and constructive means of conflict management, and was excited to learn that others had begun the process of discussing and implementing conflict resolution progams at the university level. I would like to join these efforts at furthering the availability and use of alternative forms of dispute resolution on college campuses, between students and peers as well as between faculty, administrators, students, legislators, parents, and community members. I would enjoy networking with any of you in the Colorado area, and have available research on school violence policies and perspectives on the school violence issue if any are interested.
