In his article he advocates the use of mediation for resolving ADA disputes and holds the position that "mediators who do not understand the ADA should not be resolving ADA complaints." In addition to some general information about mediation and the ADA, he outlines the following points: 1) Understand the ADA, 2) Be aware of the importance of complaint filing deadlines, 3) Determine whether mediation is appropriate, 4) Be able to discuss the advantages and disadvantages in using mediation to resolve ADA complaints with the parties, 5) Learn about differences among people with disabilities, 6) Disabilities have an impact on the mediation process, and 7) Be acquainted with professional standards of practice. The Fall 1993 (Volume 5, Number 3) edition of SYNTHESIS was entirely devoted to "Section 504 and the ADA."
