She holds a Masters in Business Administration, focusing on marketing, from the University of Missouri-St. Louis; a Masters of Arts in Teaching from Brown University; and a Bachelor's Degree in economics from Smith College. Ms. Johnson is known for her incredible energy, being well-organized, and her critical, logical, analytical thinking skills. Most recently she worked for Clean Air Action Corporation, a unique enterprise aimed at building a business while advocated for an innovative approach to air quality compliance. Ms. Johnson was involved with the marketing and regulatory activities behind selling a product that didn't yet exist. But, identifying clients for whom Clean Air Action Corp.'s "not-yet-legal, but not illegal" approach to emission trading made sense was the most effective means to obtain desired change from government regulators. Previously, Ms. Johnson was with Energy Investment, Inc., an engineering company that specializes in commercial/industrial energy efficiency and utility demand-side management programs. She played a significant role in doubling the company's sales by leading the expansion to new markets, particularly in the midwest. In addition, she organized the premier national Demand-Side Management conference, including direct contact with 125 utilities nationwide. The conference attracted over 1200 attendees. In the non-profit sector, Ms. Johnson was Director of Massachusetts Audubon: Boston. This new urban initiative of the Society focused on bringing together advocacy, education, and scientific activities related to the cleanup of Boston Harbor and the improvement of open space in Boston. Recruiting and managing a staff of five, she also developed new program directions related to water conservation and reduction of urban pesticide use. In 30 months, Ms. Johnson successfully raised over $330,000 in foundation support. Previously, Ms. Johnson was the Environmental Programs Director for the American Lung Association of Massachusetts/Boston where she worked with schools, community groups, labor unions, and government on air conservation and occupational lung disease programs. Ms. Johnson's work experiences also include computer programmer, junior high school social studies teaching, fund-raising, and event management. She has held leadership positions with a number of non-profit organizations and advisory councils including Save the Harbor/Save the Bay, the South End/Lower Roxbury Open Space Land Trust, the Boston GreenSpace Alliance, Sierra Club, League of Women Voters in Boston and in St. Louis, Mayoral Solid Waste Committee, and the Massachusetts Water Resources Authority's Facilities Planning Citizen's Advisory Committee.
