Date: Tue, 17 Aug 93 13:59:50 EDT hi donna- i was worried that you may not have rec'd my 11am brief description; in addition i further edited it down to the following, which should better fit. i have not mentioned an enrollment limit, but think 12 would be optimum, 20 max. thanks! - richard -------- originally sent as: Message-Id: <9308171500.AA09259@primavera> To: friedman@Athena.MIT.EDU Cc: rdshydur@Athena.MIT.EDU Subject: a probably too-verbose description for your catalog ... Date: Tue, 17 Aug 93 11:00:21 EDT (proposed time and location: tuesdays at 7-9pm in 66-148 ... this is the conference room with a curve-a-linear table, quite good for small discussion groups. i've been using it for several years and it works well. professor flemings may have a different time and location in mind. i plan to speak with him about that next) "Starting-Up New Technology-Based Business Enterprises at MIT" Richard Shyduroff, Seminar Leader Professor Merton C. Flemings, Faculty Advisor Tuesdays at 7-9pm in 66-148 Students in this seminar will discuss a series of topics that define the stages of the development of a new enterprise at MIT. From the moment a new idea for a technology product or service is realised, through the processes of debugging, team building, idea- protection, market research, business plan writing, fundraising, development, manufacturing and selling, to customer support and the next new idea, participants will follow the history of selected examples of successful MIT spin-off companies; a common thread will follow the people, as well as their ideas, behind MIT start-ups. A current new start-up, based at The Institute, will be followed as closely as proprietary conditions allow, principals participating, as a goal of the seminar is to experience real-time networking and teamwork. Interviews with enterprising MIT alum will be conducted on real field trips and in the virtual environment of the Media Lab's "mediaMOO" where students and geographically remote alum will "meet" as an on-demand collaborative research group. Students shall keep an "idea log book" of their own, and shall write critically of the subject start-ups, and shall present their own work at the end of the term and optionally in IAP'94 workshops offered by The MIT Entrepreneurs Club for the MIT Community. Richard Shyduroff is the Co-Founder and Co-Director of The MIT Entrepreneurs Club, aka: "The E-Club" and has been involved in a number of MIT start-up companies, emphasising networking, team building, idea de-bugging and presentation, and fund raising. Merton C. Flemings is The Toyota Professor and Head of The Department of Materials Science and Engineering.
