Date: Mon, 25 Apr 94 12:34:03 EDT to: all seminar participants & interested e-club members; re: professor john w. senders visit today at mit, update; john is meeting at noon today with eddie elliot and a potential corporate investor to look at _video streamer_, in greater detail, at demos eddie has organised at the media lab. seminar 095 may take the credit for getting these guys together, and i hope we'll have a formal update from eddie and john before the term is out. (btw, i am proposing to incorporate beta versions of _video streamer_, as an example of video tools that will be available, in my proposed _new pritchett multimedia conferencing center_ thesis project next year, if indeed that all comes together, and i'd like to remind the seminar that all students interested in the proposed design space and the services tools like _video streamer_ represents, are invited to ask me for additional details about how to get involved; this is especially applicable to making such software and hardware available for market testing in the mit community-at-large in an environment that is not at the mercy of the demo-or-die model, and without taking away valuable additional time from graduate students, faculty, researchers and other vips at mit). later this afternoon, john is also scheduled to meet with two mit students who did _not_ get their 10k entry past the first phase (executive summary), as he has a legitimate project going that needs just the technology that karim hussein and ahmed mitwalli have been developing. john and another professor friend (from cornell) have an idea for starting a company with karim and ahmed. i further trust karim and ahmed will drop by the seminar to tell us a little about what they'll be doing next to get this off the ground. * TONIGHT: for those in the seminar who can make it i'll have john along with me on one of my random visits to prof. robert rines' monday night lectures in 6.901, inventions & patents, at 7-9pm in room 37-212, as always, and john doesn't know it yet, but he'll have a chunk of time this evening to talk and lead a discussion with rines' regular students. i hope as many of you who are able to will come by, and for those of you who have not yet met bob rines, this is a good time, as he was inducted into the inventors hall of fame this past weekend, and is just back from ohio, and i'm sure we can get him to give guests tonight a brief historical sketch of how he came to deserve that recognition. again, this evening should be quite interesting: 37-212 at 7 to at least 9pm. and btw, the doors to 37 lock at 6pm, so from the outside world, take the elevator in building 35 to the 3rd floor, walk out and ccw 'til you come to the common stairwell between 35 and 37, go down those stairs to the second floor of 37, out the door and ccw to the corridor. 212 is on the left after 37's elevators. - richard .
