The Center for Renewable Energy and Sustainable Technology (CREST) is designed "to demonstrate renewable energy technology at work today and encourage its use through hands-on interaction and education." It will be located at Two Massachusetts Avenue, NW, a highly visible building near Union Station and the U.S. Capitol. Sponsors and contributors to CREST include the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE), the Rockefeller Foundation, American Energy Technologies, Solarex Corp., Solar Service and Supply, Display Tech, Inc., Southern California Edison Co., Siemens Solar Industries, and the Government of the District of Columbia. Displays at the Center will include "touch-screen CD-ROM and laserdisc exhibits and other interactive elements focusing on . . photovoltaics, solar thermal electric, wind, geothermal, conservation, and electric systems and storage . . . "CREST will specifically showcase education and training modules developed by the TerraMedia Collaborative, a coalition of nonprofit institutions, universities, corporations and government [groups] dedicated to producing advanced educational tools in the fields of energy, the environment, and sustainable community development."
