Getting Involved
Through this project, EASE sponsors 90 students each school year in 10 different Junior Secondary School (JSS) and Senior Secondary School (SSS) schools in and around the Cape Coast region of Ghana. EASE funds are used to pay for room and board, stationery, uniforms, food, and materials for vocational and technical classes. It costs $50 to sponsor a student in JSS and $150 per term (3 terms = $450) to sponsor a student in SSS. Funding for this project comes from fundraiser events held on the MIT campus, private donors, and a $2000-prize EASE won during the 2002 MIT IDEAS competition.
EASE Nigeria
EASE has partnered with the MIT Nigerian Students Association (NSA) - a philanthropic student organization aiming to develop projects for the betterment of Nigeria to form the EASE-Nigeria project. EASE will sponsor one student from each of the three levels of the Owerri Government Secondary School (SSS1, SSS2, and SSS3). Each sponsored student will receive $70 per academic term, resulting in a combined total of $630 for the three students during the 2010/2011 academic year. EASE will pay for room and board, stationery, uniforms, food, and materials for vocational and technical classes. Funding for this project comes from fundraiser events held on the MIT campus, private donors, and a $2000-prize EASE won during the 2002 MIT IDEAS competition.
Past Projects
- The Library Project
- The Cambridge Cultural Education Project
The library project involved stocking existing libraries with books useful for basic
education, as well as encouraging the establishment of new libraries by communities and schools
that lack one. EASE focused on stocking existing libraries with books donated by individuals.
The cultural education project served to educate grade and middle school students in the Greater Boston area about Africa, its people, its culture, its environment, and its educational system.
