Previous experience with PAOK basketball
I started watching PAOK basketball games around 1979. Sometime during the fall
of 1981 the impressive results that brought PAOK to the top of Greek basketball
for the first time in many years attracted me and I started watching every PAOK
game played in Thessaloniki. During the 1982-1988 period I missed completely
just one PAOK game in Thessaloniki against VAO around 1982, two partially,
against AEK around 1984 and Panionios in October 1987 (all of them due to
conflicts with my school schedules), and watched one on TV, being gravely ill,
against Berloni Torino in December 1985, a game that most people remember for
the unique for those days slam-dunk by Simpson. In the period 1983-1985 I
worked as un unpaid sports journalist for "Sports tou Vorra", covering mostly
PAOK games and occasionally games played by other Thessaloniki teams. The heavy
time requirements of my university studies, as well as the spilling of veteran
soccer journalists to basketball, led me to quitting this hobby.
