Neil F. Budde, 41, is the editor of The Wall Street Journal Interactive Edition.

As founding editor since his appointment in December 1993, Mr. Budde has directed the design, development and evolution of the Interactive Journal. He oversees its news and technical operations, as well as manages its relationship to The Wall Street Journal and other Dow Jones news media. He also serves as executive director of the Dow Jones Interactive Publishing business unit.

The team headed by Mr. Budde introduced the Interactive Journal in April 1996. It began charging subscribers in September 1996, and today has more than 175,000 paying subscribers, making it the Web's largest paid subscription site. TJFR Business News Reporter recently named Mr. Budde the "1998 Business Journalist of the Year."

Prior to his appointment as editor of the Interactive Journal, Mr. Budde was deputy editorial director for Dow Jones News/Retrieval, where he had responsible for day-to-day management of the 75-person editorial department. He also oversaw design and development of new information services.

Before joining Dow Jones, Mr. Budde spent a decade as an editor or reporter for several newspapers, including The Courier-Journal in Louisville, Ky., USA Today and the Richmond Times-Dispatch. His positions have included copy editor, associate editor of the Sunday magazine, assistant business editor and business reporter.

Mr. Budde earned a bachelor of arts degree in journalism from Western Kentucky University in Bowling Green, Ky., and an MBA from the University of Louisville in Louisville, KY.
