ECS final report.

The Educational Commons Subcommittee (ECS) is a subcommittee of the Committee on the Undergraduate Educational Program (CUP). We were charged with reviewing and refining changes to the undergraduate program as recommended in the final report of the Task Force on the Undergraduate Educational Commons (see Links section), and ultimately proposing a set of concrete changes to the general MIT undergraduate curriculum to the faculty.

The response to the Task Force’s final report demonstrated that further work was needed to reconcile the structure of the GIRs with the dynamic challenges facing undergraduate education at MIT. Since our appointment in October 2007, we met with many groups that provided input and feedback. We devoted most of our attention to refining the GIR-related recommendations of the Task Force. Please see our final report (see Recommendations section) for more details on our work.

Our Motion was presented at the Faculty meeting on November 19, 2008 and discussion continued at the December 17, 2008 meeting. Discussion of the motion will resume at a special Faculty meeting called for February 4, 2009 (3:30 pm) in room 10-250.
