	The Edgerton Center Student Shop provides training in the use of machine tools, access to them, and guidance in project planning, to any current MIT student. The monthly training program is conducted in the evenings and consists of twelve hours of hands on instruction, showing the basics of milling and lathe work by making two small parts. MechE students having completed the machining portion of 2.008 may test out of the required training. If you feel you have adequate experience and a familiarity with machine safety and use, tooling and proper setup, you can schedule a meeting with an instructor to gain access by taking a safety lecture which is offered every few weeks as needed. Shop equipment consists of 3 Bridgeport millers, 2 EZ-Trak CNC mills, HAAS CNC lathe, 4 metal lathes, band saw, drill presses, belt sander and many hand tools. We also offer a Dimension 3D Printer for student use. This machine can be used for a fee. It prints with ABS Plastic and can be seen by visiting the shop during normal hours.
