David L. Brock
Dave
Brock is Principal Research Scientist at the Massachusetts Institute of
Technology, and is Founder and Director of the MIT Data Center, an
interdisiplinary industry sponsored project to build an interoperable
modeling and data system for practical application in industry. The
centerpiece of this effort is the M Language and Dictionary that will enable
the ability to do semantic modeling by linking data and models together
across the Internet.
Dave's principal fields
on interest include interoperability
of computing systems, Internet control, computer graphics, and the health
care industry. Besides his duties in leading the MIT Data Center and
developing the M Language and Dictionary, Dave also is responsible for the
healthcare group, including work in the area of bioinformatics relating
to information related issues in the biotechnology industry.
Prior to founding the
MIT Data Center, Dave
co-founded and served
as a Director at the Auto-ID Center (now
Auto-ID Labs and
EPCglobal).
The Center was an international research consortium formed as a partnership
among more than 100 global companies and five leading research universities.
The size of this project exceeded $25 million and spanned over three years.
David is also Assistant Research Professor of Surgery at Tufts University
Medical School and Founder and Chief Technology Officer of endoVia Medical,
Inc., a manufacturer of computer controlled medical devices.
His most recent
publication titled "An Introduction to
Semantic Modeling for Logistical Systems" was published in the Journal
of Business Logistics. A forerunner of this article won the E.
Grosvenor Plowman Award, given by the Council for Supply Chain Management
Professionals for best paper in 2004.
Dr. Brock holds
bachelors’ degrees in theoretical mathematics and mechanical engineering, as
