"Industrial Manufacturing," Korea
Professor Jung-Hoon Chun and Dr. David Brock will be
conducting a series of programs for several leading Korean manufacturing
companies during June. Professor Chun is Director of the Laboratory for
Manufacturing Productivity (LMP) and a Professor of Mechanical Engineering at
MIT. Dr. Brock is Principal Research Scientist and Director of The MIT
Data Center, which is situated within the LMP. The LMP is an
interdisciplinary group of professors and researchers within the MIT School of
Engineering.
The goal of LMP is to focus on three emerging areas of
mechanical engineering that have attracted a great deal of attention recently.
These areas include nanotechnology, information engineering, and environmental
issues. The Data Center focuses on research dealing with information
engineering and its application to linking data with mathematical models.
Manufacturing companies worldwide are experiencing a
rapid increase in the amount of data and access to real-time data feeds.
Integrating these new data streams into various types of equipment such as
automobiles and heavy construction machinery requires the research and
development of new standards and technologies. Both Professor Chin and
Dr. Brock will be discussing their plans for future research in these and
other areas.
