MIT Geodata Search Tool/Spatial Data Server

Daniel Sheehan, Sarah Williams

The Geodata Search Tool allows GIS users to access files in the MIT GIS spatial data repository. Over the last year the GIS services team has collected spatial data representing national and international locations and have added those layers to the spatial data repository.

The Geodata Search tool is an extension to ArcView, which is the leading GIS software product. When added to ArcView, this extension provides the ability to search and retrieve data held in the spatial data repository. The spatial data repository and the Geodata Search Tool have given MIT GIS users the ability to find, analyze and download GIS data without coming into the GIS Laboratory in Rotch Library.

The GIS Services program is a collaboration between the MIT Libraries and Information Systems/Academic Computing Practice with a goal of supporting the MIT community's research and academic activities, as they relate to Geographic Information Systems (GIS). This support not only includes the collection of literature, data, software, and hardware; but also, training and assistance in the use of GIS. GIS Services group is available to work with faculty to implement and assist in teaching GIS-based labs in individual subjects.
