The EECS GSA is a group designed to bring graduate students in the Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology out of the many corners of campus in which we sit to share experiences, strengthen our communication with faculty and administration, and improve student life within the department.

Mission

The mission of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) Electrical Engineering and Computer Science (EECS) Graduate Student Association (GSA) is to:
  • Promote social, professional and academic development;
  • Foster communication and interaction within the department;
  • Encourage a sense of common identity;
  • Facilitate outreach to the community at large.

Membership

The Association is completely open to participation by any and all students enrolled in a graduate degree-granting program administered by MIT EECS, including MEng, SM, EE, ECS, PhD and ScD students, all students admitted to such programs, and their alumni. It is designed to be a relatively informal and fun group for the most part, though there are well-defined formal process in place so that the needs of members can be well-represented.

Relationship with the MIT Graduate Student Council

This group is integrated tightly with the MIT Graduate Student Council (GSC), which can be seen as the "parent group" of the GSA that acts on the level of the Institute, as opposed to the department. The GSC seeks to advocate for the needs of graduate students on an Institute level through departmental representatives. A departmental student group, such as the GSA, can therefore play the role of keeping the GSC well-informed of the specific needs of the graduate students in the department.
