Who I am: 4th year graduate student, in Al Oppenheim's group (RLE) Previous relevant experience: Treasurer, MIT EECS GSA 2-semester TA for 6.341, 1-semester TA for 6.011 President, HKN, Tufts University Music Director, The Tufts Amalgamates (yep, an a cappella group :) Why I'd like to be president: In its few years of existence, the EECS GSA has made some dramatic improvements around the department. Some of these have come in the form of social gatherings and the organization of intramural sports teams, while others (like the discussion of a pass/D/fail option) have had a more administrative focus. It's clear that the GSA gives students plenty of opportunities to socialize, relax, and facilitate change within EECS. Still, with some 800 graduate students in the department, the GSA hasn't achieved the degree of visibility that it could. The lab-oriented environment in EECS, I think, tends to isolate students from department-wide resources such as the GSA. Probably the biggest question facing the organization is: "How do we make the GSA a resource that is truly central to EECS student life?" This is the main question I'd like to address as president. Feel free to talk to me about specific ideas I have for answering this. -Tom
