EECS Orientation Events

Date: Sunday, August 24

Time: 7:00pm - 9:00pm

Location: Grier Room 34-401

Description: Come and join us for a dinner and learn about what EECS has prepared for you for the upcoming Orientation week. There is a GSC event at Ashdown before this, so feel free to go grab a burger there and meet other MIT students; but, be sure to come to EECS Welcome Dinner to meet your fellow EECS students! Dress code is casual. Welcome to MIT!

Time: 3:30pm - 8:00pm

Location: Steps of 77 Mass. Ave.

Description: A fun filled afternoon where you will have the chance to experience Boston with your fellow classmates. Your team will be competing against other first year EECS students to be the fastest to finish the scavenger hunt. Prizes may be awarded. The night will end with a subsidized dinner and billiards. Bring some money in case you want snacks while walking through Boston. This will be a great chance for you to get to know your classmates outside of class, see the sights of Boston, and have tons of fun. You will be directed to go to many places in Boston that you will surely return to throughout the year, and have a chance to do some touristy things in the city. You also get to bond with a group of friends, and have a great dinner filled with fun.

Time: 9:00am - 2:15pm

Location: Grier Room 34-401

Description: An official departmental welcome with student-designed information sessions that share what you really need to know about being a graduate student in EECS. It will cover question such as: What are the requirements for a MS or PhD? How do you get an RA or TA? What are the TQEs and RQEs? (Enough acronyms yet?) Come hear about all of this and more, with presentations by departmental faculty and students to get all your questions answered. Plus, free breakfast and lunch. This event is mandatory for all incoming students to attend.

Time: 4:30pm - 5:30pm

Location: Stata R&D Pub 32-G401

Description: An ice cream social for incoming students, current students, and faculty. Please come by to enjoy a sundae and mingle in a casual environment.

Date: Monday, September 1

Time: 1:00pm - 8:45pm

Location: Outside 39 (Vassar Side)

Description: A recreational afternoon of volleyball, tennis, basketball, swimming, games and more at MIT's historic Endicott House followed by a tasty gourmet buffet dinner. Please join us in this opportunity to relax with other incoming students and current students. See the MIT Endicott website for a more information. Many students that graduate never hear of, much less visit this gorgeous twenty-five acre estate. This will be the highlight of your orientation, frolicking in the gardens and filling your belly while in the company of your fellow EECS students! Sign up fast because spaces are very limited and don't forget to bring your swimsuits!
