IHP Staff Meeting Notes – 13
Nov 2007
Chem Hyg Plans
- Template has been updated
- New version should be up on website soon
- For existing CHPs that have lab or dept-specific sections,
the new “standardized” sections of the CHP will be
made available for cut/paste
- New CHPs due 1/1/08
- Let Bob E. know if CHOs have changed
ChemTracker Training
- All lead contacts need to take training
- Sign up for training online
- ChemTracker and MIT EHS’s chem. storage SOP do not coincide
completely
- Follow our SOP for now – we may change or reorganize
parts of it later
Full Compliance
- No new additions to the full compliance table
- Generic version of table will be posted on EHSNet
- Will be discussed at all staff meeting (11/14/07)
- JHAs may help Bob E. identify possible lead exposures
- Bill T. will talk to Peter B. about getting JHAs accessible
to IHP/EHS (through EHSNet?)
Balanced Scorecards
- Several DLCs are below 80% for 110 training
- IHP team member run a DLC assessment report to recheck
these DLCs
- Each IHP Balanced Scorecard Initiative owner provided write-ups
to Lou D. and discussed their initiative during the meeting
Round Robin
- LL Daycare
- Playground structures made of CCA-treated wood
- Parents concerned (for at least three years)
- Nancy recently took wipe samples – waiting for results
- Likely to replace playground regardless of results (structures
are ~20 yrs old)
- Building 12 IAQ
- Strong fish/garbage odor
- Drip pans on recirc units cleaned out – smell dissipated
- Building 4 IAQ
- Very high temps in soundproof booths
- Air handler was not on PM list
- Prefilter was clogged (not changed for 7 years)
- Awaiting chilled water lines and exhaust fans for each booth
to be fixed
- Building 56 IAQ
- Supply air fan failed (5th and 6th floors were at about
1/3 of what they should be)
- Instead of repairing fan (parts hard to get), whole fan
will be replaced
- Dust mites
- Emily took tape samples
- Not best way according to AIHANE contact
- Can test for allergen – this is better method
- Building 46 machine shop
- Good general HVAC but no LEV for machining, welding, etc.
- Considering using filtering/recirc LEV
- Have proposal from designer
- Need facilities input to make decision
- AIHANE Meeting
- Emily and Andy attended
- Several presenters (Pandemic, Take Chemist to Lunch, others)
- CSB Safety Videos
- E25 (Poon Lab) IAQ
- Lab group just moved in
- Office, lab, and grad student room
- 8-12 grad students will be in small room
- Stuffy at end of day
- No unusual IAQ parameters at noon
- Complaints of dust and paint odors
- Ongoing construction in building
- No unusual dust levels
- Requested increase in fresh air (temporary)
- Barry will “wrap up” with them
IHP staff meeting notes 9-18-07
Next meeting Oct. 16 at 9:30
- Balanced scorecard initiatives – each
owner needs to get write-up to Lou by end of month Please cc Pam.
Go here for the write-up template and a list of initiatives. M:\Balanced
Scorecard Initiatives 2008
- Full compliance - For the expanded standards
after looking at a few, I did a write-up for all of them and put
it with Bob’s CHP write-up in the I drive full compliance
final. So if all you had left was to write up one of those, you
are done. Bob to send list of outstanding compliance write-ups
around to IHP. We are almost done.
- SMART goals – Pam wants to meet with
everyone in the next few weeks. Sign-up is on her door.
- Custodian training – Emily to provide
slides on new cleaning product dispensing units. Pam to post schedule
on door. Eveyone except Tim and Jeff to sign up for one or two
sessions. Barry send slides on asbestos around. Emily…can
you do cleaners and the couple of ergo slides.
- PCB’s –Susan Leite updated IHP on
a recent EPA action around PCB oil in a PCB containing capacitor.
Guidance will be forthcoming to EHS Office and Coordinators on
procedures for when and how to check for PCB’s.
- Chem Hygiene Plan – Marilyn will highlight
Nano under PHS section, Bob will update visitors section, Emily
will do a chemical specific draft fact sheet (may or may not go
into template), Andy will check to see if Dan K wants to modify
neutralization/disposal section, Pam to contact Zhanna to see
if Homeland security chemical reporting should be included. In
CHP.
- Open House – IHP in pretty good shape
from Cambridge Science Festival. Posters may need to be redone
due to fading, Andy IAQ, Marilyn nano, Barry noise or asbetos>
, Tim respirators, Suzanne will do ergo, Pam at booths as needed,
Emily and Bob doing too many things to articulate.
- New respirator booklets – Nancy’s
efforts on booklets much appreciated. Located in library, if you
need a bunch they will have to be assembled so plan ahead. Nancy
to get this posted on the web (environment ) as well.
- Extended outage Plan – Bob E needs vendor
back-up names. Asbestos analysis and monitoring- Jeff, general
IH lab analysis, respirator suppliers- Tim. We discussed BU/Harvard/MIT
monitoring equipment sharing.
