Network registration for new computers or new
IP addresses
Working Remotely:
-Install Kerberos

-Install OpenAFS
http://dl.openafs.org/dl/openafs/1.3.77/winnt/
Download file named OpenAFSforWindows-1-3-7700.exe
Click next through installation until prompted to “enter
AFS cell name”.
Change from openafs.org to athena.mit.edu
After installation you will be asked to reboot.
-Configure OpenAFS as needed to get to your networked drives.
To map network drives go to:
Control panels > afs configuration > drive letters
Click add
Select a letter
Enter AFS path
Enter Submount (name)
G drive paths follow this pattern using your own kerberos
ID : afs\athena\user\h\b\hbnguyen
Group drives are afs\athena\dept\ehslan\group\ehs or
rpp, ihp, emp, bsp, ehs-ms, safety
Athena Locker (G-drive):
-Contents of your locker can be seen, but not read
-use your www folder to host your own web site – home
page should be called index.html
-creating an html page is really simple; mastering html
takes work.

Computer Slowness:
-too many files or folders on your desktop will slow down
performance
-large images as a desktop picture will slow down performance
-reboot if you haven’t in a while
-check for spyware – see below
-Clear cache in IE, Firefox, whatever browsers you use
Security/maintenance:
-Get MIT virus software

run updates, scan and immunize
use a pop-up blocker (google, yahoo, ie, whichever)
