Meetings with Advisor: Prepare for your meeting by drafting an agenda, or series of points you wish to discuss. Don't expect your advisor to begin the meeting. Remember, your advisor is not your primary audience for the written Statement of Project.
Write up your notes immediately after the meeting. Write an informal trip report in memo format or an email to yourself or to your practicum instructor. Your most important task now is to limit your focus and define your objective.
Memo: A brief document (formal or informal in style) with headings to define author and audience(s), date of composition, subject.
Memo Headings:
To: From: identify individuals by name and organization and rank
Subject: or Re: use keywords for ease of retrieval from company and academic or personal archives, or to stand out in lengthy email listings
Memo Organization:
Begin with key ideas and most important points, then discuss them. You may use headings or bulleted lists.
Trip report: formal or informal in style, may be in memo format. A narrative of where you went and with whom you spoke, followed by your analysis of this meeting and your conclusions or recommendations based on that analysis. You may list basic recommendations or summaries at start of memo and then begin the narrative.
