NADET Institute to Catalogue Drilling Activities

With support from the MOBPTECH drilling collaboration (supported by MObil, BP, TExaco, and CHevron) the NADET Institute will compile a review and catalogue of world-wide drilling activities and facilities. A one-year program has been approved, but such a cataloguing is clearly a continuing task with widespread and evolving interest. It is expected that once initiated the program will become self-sustaining, supported by subscribers to updated reports.

The review will cover all types of drilling in relevant industries, in keeping with the NADET premise that many of today’s best opportunities lie in areas of diverse technology integration and cross-fertilization. It will include government, industry, and academic programs; users, manufacturers and researchers; supporters of research and development; and organizations that depend upon such support. The survey will begin in the United States, but will expand to world-wide activities as experience is gained.

The report will include two sections. The first will be a databank of current drilling R&D programs, participants, facilities, and capabilities. The second will be a qualitative overview of current programs, needs, and perceived opportunities. Clearly, this is an enormous undertaking, unlikely to be "complete" in a single year or as a static document; yearly "updates" are anticipated. The NADET Institute looks forward to working with many participants in preparing this document.
