Map showing Building 56 [map]
From
the Main MIT Entrance ("The Dome") at
77 Massachusetts Avenue:
Enter
the main doors and walk straight ahead down a very
long hallway. Keep walking until you get to the
very end of the hallway and have exited into a court
yard. Once
outside, turn left and go a few steps and then turn
to your right. Walk alongside the buildings, go
past a small round cement sitting area on your right
and soon thereafter you will see the entrance to
Building 56 on your left. Go through the set of
double glass doors and the elevator will be directly
in front of you - take it to the 6th floor. My office
is is room 631 and the lab is room 638.
From
the T:
Take
the Red Line to the Kendall Square T stop ("Kendall/MIT").
If
you were headed outbound going toward Alewife/Harvard,
you will exit adjacent to the MIT COOP - Turn to
face Main Street (a two way street with a divider).
Cross Main Street and head to your right down Main
Street (away from the river). If
you were headed inbound going toward Park Street,
you will exit onto a "micro-park" with
bricks and a few trees - Turn around to face Main
Street (a two way street with a divider) and then
walk to your left down Main St, away from the river.
At
the first light, turn left and walk down Ames Street
until you come to a cross walk. You will see a wide
set of stairs and a large concrete squared off arch
on your left. On your right, you will see a building
with a sharp angle facing you (from the sky, that
building is a 30/60/90 triangle and you are looking
at the 30 degree corner). Cross
the crosswalk so that you are walking away from
the arch and the 30/60/90 triangle building (#66)
is on your right. Walk
straight ahead, go past the 30/60/90 building, go
past a set of bike racks on your right, keep going
until you get to a set of double glass doors - the
main entrance to building 56. Just inside the entrance
you will be facing an elevator. Take the elevator
to the 6th floor.
