From the Dean
Dear Colleague,
Welcome to the School of Engineering! You have joined a community of many of the world's brightest minds and inventive thinkers.
The purpose of the School of Engineering is to meet societal needs through its education, research, and public service. The School's overarching theme is "Leadership through Technical Excellence and Innovation." The primary objectives of the MIT School of Engineering are thus twofold: first, to educate men and women for leadership in industry, government, and educational institutions; and, second, to influence the future directions of engineering education and practice.
The MIT School of Engineering, arguably the best in the world, is a result of ALL our efforts. The School is a very exciting place to work, often a very challenging place to work; but it is also a vibrant and a caring community. In fact, the School has recently started implementing a new program of orientation for new administrative officers like you, and we are pleased to offer you the opportunity to connect with a peer advisor to assist you with your entry into your new position. We are pleased that you have accepted our offer and look forward to your contributions to the continued excellence of the School.
Warm Regards,
Thomas L. Magnanti
