Working in the School of Engineering
Your department/lab/center, or division or program ("DLC," for short) joins with approximately 30 other units in pursuing the mission of the School of Engineering ("SoE").
As a DLC administrator, one of your many functions includes serving as the liaison between your unit and other administrative units around the Institute. In this role, it is important that you provide effective communication, especially since you are in a pivotal position to ensure the effective utilization of resources.
In this section entitled "Working in the School of Engineering," you will find four "chapters" — DLC Management, Financial Management, Human Resource Management, and Sponsored Funds Management — each of which presents key information in that administrative area, with particular emphasis on School of Engineering practices.
If you are new to the School , we hope that you are now working with an advisor and that you have met some of your peer administrators. (Just for fun, see what we did at our May 2007 Poetry Luncheon!)
Your advisor, your peers, and the SoE Dean's office staff will work together to help guide you through these processes in a timely manner.
The Dean's Office convenes monthly meetings on issues and topics of interest to SoE administrators. A tentative schedule is distributed at the beginning of each academic year. We hope that these meetings will provide you with opportunities for peer interaction and information exchange.
We in the Dean's office welcome your questions and your input. Please don't hesitate to contact us for assistance at any time throughout your orientation to the School.
