November 2007 Susann LuperFoy: UPOP's New Executive Director The Dean's Office of the MIT School of Engineering has announced the appointment of Dr. Susann Luperfoy as the executive director of the Undergraduate Practice Opportunities Program, effective 5 November 2007.
She has organized several workshops, symposia, special interest groups, and standards committees and has served on the technical boards of five Cambridge startups. During Akamai's startup years, she directed the growth of an engineering department that delivered analysis tools to Akamai's customers and to the network performance staff in the Network Operations Center. Most recently, she has worked with surgeons and medical school faculty on the integration of Intelligent Tutoring technology into simulation-based training systems, and with robotics engineers on human-robot spoken dialog interaction. She has been committed to the mission of UPOP since its founding and has witnessed its results in the development of four UPOP internships that she has supervised. In February of 2007 Susann received a Desh and Jaishree Deshpande UPOP Service Award given to outstanding volunteers. Dr. Luperfoy succeeds Chris Resto as UPOP Director.
