The MIT Shakespeare Ensemble performed an adaptation
of Lope de Vega's Fuenteovejuna. This wasn't just any adaptation. The play
depicts the struggle of a town under the rulership of a of thoughtless
and unethical leader. The Ensemble, under the direction of Brenda L Cotto-Escalera,
described these themes in their own words and, in contrast, within a colorful
festival as the townspeople begrudgingly welcome their returning ruler.
A fiesta before and through the show brought the audience into the play
(and onto the stage). The fiesta began at 7:30 and the play started at
8PM November 13, 14, 15 and November 20, 21, and 22 in the Little Kresge
Theater. (48 Massachusetts Ave, Cambridge)
