SAVE is an environmental advocacy group of concerned MIT students
of all majors and backgrounds. Members meet every Tuesday night
at 10:00 PM Private Dining Rooms 1 and 2 on the 3rd floor of the
Student Center. Anyone can join. Just show up.
We discuss environmental problems and their solutions, and plan
actions and events to help realize our goal of living in harmony
with the earth.
In pursuit of this aim, SAVE collaborates with the MIT administration
on an ongoing basis to promote recycling initiatives and the use
of environmentally friendly products. We also host lectures, workshops,
discussion groups, and other events for students.
Last May SAVE organized "Stuff Fest" to encourage reuse and to
benefit the local community. Living groups collected clothes, food,
books, and furniture. SAVE students gathered 33 bags full, which
were donated to CASPAR (Cambridge and Somerville Program for Alcohol
and Drug Abuse Rehabilitation). This year, we hope to expand the
program even further.
SAVE also held two plant giveaways, to brighten up rooms on campus
and raise awareness of environmental issues. We gave away a variety
of flowers and herbs. These events celebrated Earth Day and America
Recycles Day. We hope to make them a tradition. Our lively, easy-to-read
booklet, "How to Live Green at MIT" is available free to anyone
who wants one. Just contact us. And come to a meeting! SAVE welcomes
all MIT students. "Join us as we save the environment and have fun."
