MIT's environmental programs provide crucial links between our administration's strong environmental commitment, our thought leadership in environmental research and education, and the numerous initiatives and operational activities - such as the EHS Management System - that enable us to deliver on our pledge to protect both the environment and our community's health and safety.
These efforts are led by several groups within MIT:
- The Environmental Programs / EHS Headquarters Office
(EP/EHO
) has responsibility for sustainability initiatives, service, and compliance; participates in environmental policymaking; coordinates MIT-wide environmental, health, and safety (EHS) initiatives; and oversees EHS at MIT, including the Environment, Health, and Safety Office.
- The Environment, Health, and Safety Office (EHS Office),
which reports to EP/EHO
, is responsible for the EHS management and
the delivery of services that promote environmentally responsible
practices at MIT, reduce MIT's impact on the environment, and
protect the health and safety of our community at the operational
level.
- The Council on the Environment develops innovative research and academic programs on the environment, both within MIT and in partnership with other institutions.
- The Environmental Health and Safety Council oversees MIT's EHS Management System, which applies MIT's comprehensive goals for the environment and for the welfare of our community to our research and administrative operations.
