Client
New England Trade Adjustment Center of the Department of Commerce, Boston, MA., and the Abbott Machine Company, of Wilton, N.H.
Problem
American textile winding machine manufacturers have been almost completely squeezed out of the market by German and Italian manufacturers. In an effort to stimulate this American industry, the Department of Commerce authorized the New England Trade Adjustment Center to provide credits to the Abbott Machine Company, one of the oldest and most reputable winding manufacturers in the United States, to develop competitive machines.
Solution
The picture shows the result of the American efforts. A new generation of totally automatic cone winders provided with all the modern developments. This machine is capable to compete with the best from Europe. Each winding head unit is replaceable by just unlocking it and pulling it out without stopping the rest. Bobbins are fed to the tube below, the yarn is then pneumatically fed and tied in a continuous manner to be wound at the cones. The unit shown is just a module. Many such units can be made with as many heads as needed. The machine shown has already been sold and many more are being planned. Their price is also competitive with foreign machines.
