Apple Pie

(That's Dr. Patti Christie, the Once and Future Chemistry staff member at ESG, helping Craig with the pies. Photo by Dave Custer.)

Ingredients:

  • 1 9-inch pie crust, unbaked
  • 2 lbs tart apples
  • 2/3 cup sugar
  • 1/2 tablespoon ground cinnamon (or to taste)
  • 3/4 cup flour
  • 1 stick butter

Directions:

  1. Preheat oven to 400° F
  2. Prepare pie crust (from a mix, or from scratch if you have the patience)
  3. Peel, core and slice the apples, and place them in and even layer in the crust
  4. Blend 1/3 cup sugar and cinnamon, and sprinkle over the apples
  5. Blend remaining sugar, flour and butter, cutting up the butter until the butter is in pea-size pieces
  6. Pour mixture over the apples, and spread to cover to the edges
  7. Bake at 400° for 40 minutes
