The Linden Earth System Graduate Fellowships

Planet Earth is a monument to the magnificent complexity that can arise from interactions among physical, chemical and biological processes. Understanding the nature of these interactions is one of the grand challenges for science and will require the coordinated efforts of scientists, engineers from what are traditionally distinct disciplines.

The Earth System Initiative at MIT is a new multidisciplinary research and education effort that is committed to bringing together scientists and engineers from these different disciplines. Our goal is to forge new understandings of how different aspects of the Earth's natural systems interact with and depend upon one another.

The Linden Earth System Fellowships at MIT will support the education and training of the next generation of multidisciplinary researchers as they help develop the scientific perspectives that will inform perceptions about the future of our planet and the role that people and societies can play in that future. The Fellowships will provide one year of tuition and stipend support for outstanding new graduate students to pursue studies in areas of research that promise to increase our understanding of the Earth System.

To apply for the Linden Earth System Fellowships:

Prospective applicants must concurrently apply for graduate study in an engineering or scientific discipline at MIT. Prospective applicants should be able to articulate how they expect their graduate education and research will contribute to an increased understanding of the Earth System.

To apply for the fellowship, submit the following materials:

  1. Undergraduate transcripts
  2. GRE scores (general scores, and, if available, subject scores)
