Campus Services is the service force that focuses on the people of the MIT community. We manage campus safety while also providing vital services such as parking and transportation, mail delivery, groundskeeping, and recycling. Sustainability measures implemented by the team include the use of more fuel-efficient vehicles and green cleaning products and equipment.
Custodial Services staff work in local teams to keep MIT offices, classrooms, labs, and public areas clean.
The Customer Service Center serves as a portal to Facilities’ services for the entire community, fielding service requests and working with staff across the Department to address customer needs.
The Office of Emergency Management & Business Continuity works closely with representatives and volunteers across campus to develop and implement the policies, procedures, and programs that keep the entire MIT community safe during emergency events. As part of a robust cross-functional team, the EM staff prepares for and responds to emergencies on campus and manages the emergency alert notification system.
Fleet Management provides service and maintenance for MIT-owned vehicles, both large and small, from Facilities to the MIT Police.
Grounds Services maintains the accessibility and beauty of MIT’s outdoor areas through activities that range from shoveling snow to landscaping.
Mail Services handles over 10 million pieces of outgoing and incoming mail per year, ships packages around the globe, and offers bulk-mailing programs.
Off-site Facilities supports MIT’s off-campus facilities throughout the state and ensures that all systems are operating efficiently and reliably.
Parking & Transportation manages all aspects of MIT’s parking, transportation, and commuter programs, including operation of the campus shuttle system. The team encourages alternate commuting options by facilitating ride-sharing and arranging discounts for commuter train and bus passes.
Recycling & Materials Management oversees all waste and recycling programs on campus, with the goal of decreasing waste and increasing MIT’s rate of reuse and recycling.
The Office of Security Operations fosters safe work environments across campus by installing and managing security devices such as card readers, alarms, and video equipment. The team also distributes MIT ID cards and provides key tracking and dissemination services.
