Comprehensive Stewardship Group officeRenovation, renewal, and stewardship
The continuous renewal and renovation of MIT’s physical assets is an essential component of the Institute's mission to advance knowledge and educate students. Facilities plays a key role in these programs created to renovate, renew, and care for our campus. The Accelerated Capital Renewal initiative (ACR) is designed to substantially reduce the backlog of deferred maintenance on campus. The Comprehensive Stewardship Group (CSG) provides enhanced maintenance programs for MIT's newest buildings to keep them in excellent condition.

Robin Arena in the Key OfficeIt’s Time to Order Keys With the beginning of the academic year fast approaching, we encourage you to turn in any old keys and order new ones now. Find out how on the SEMO key page. Key requests must be approved by a Key Authorizer. An MIT ID or valid ID is required when picking up keys.

A representative from a department can pick up requested keys for a co-worker, professor or students with a copy of the pickup notice that includes the key recipients name and tracking number and an MIT ID/valid ID. Keys should be picked up from the Customer Service Center.

Space inventory reports for 2013 are now available for review. All reports must be returned to the Office of Cost Analysis not later than August 9, 2013. Room lists can be accessed here: Departmental Space Evaluations. Space accounting floor plans can be view at A valid MIT certificate is required for access.

There will be several vehicular and pedestrian restrictions on campus and in the cities of Cambridge and Boston in order to make the fireworks safe and enjoyable for the masses. If you must drive, please be aware of road closures and parking restrictions before you arrive. The MBTA will provide extra service on the July 4 to alleviate vehicular congestion.

The MIT Earth Day Challenge is back this year. From April 20-28, participants can earn points by engaging in action projects on campus and at home to win green prizes. As part of the challenge visit a recycling plant, learn about worm composting, practice some DIY energy efficiency, witness glaciers melting before your eyes, and much more.

Stop by the fair on Wednesday, March 13 from 11 AM to 1:30 PM on the Student Street in the Stata Center. Have some free popcorn while you visit the vendors: Zipcar, EZ-Ride, the MIT Parking & Transportation Office, the City of Cambridge and many others. This year’s theme is Safety for Pedestrians, Bicyclists, and Drivers.

Robynn Cruz-Walker and Larry Brutti from the MIT Parking and Transportation Office will be there. This event is sponsored by their office and the CRMTA.


Building E17Underground tunnel closure
The campus steam expansion joint construction project continues through the end of March. In order to perform the work it will be necessary to close the basement tunnel that connects Buildings 68 to E18. On each business day, the corridor will be closed from 7 AM to 3 PM. Alternate routes will be posted in the halls. Unfortunately, there is no other tunnel system for pedestrians. Anyone who needs to travel between Building E18 and Building 68 will have to do so outside from 7 AM to 3 PM. No other floors of the buildings should be affected by this construction.

Discover how you can save money and make your home more energy efficient from our Repair & Maintenance experts. Learn how to rewire a lamp, install an electrical outlet, and get a better understanding of household wiring. The class is Tuesday, January 29 from 12:30 – 2 PM in Room E18-027. No advance registration needed.


KeysNo Key Distribution January 24-28, 2013
In order to conduct a key inventory, it will be necessary to suspend key distribution for several days at the end of January. There will be no key distribution at the Customer Service Center on Thursday, Jan. 24, Friday, Jan 25, and Monday, Jan 28. Please plan to pick up any keys prior to Wednesday, January 23 at 4 PM.

Key distribution will resume on Tuesday, January 29. Customers may pick up keys in the Customer Service Center in Room 7-019. The hours for Key Distribution are from 8 AM to 4 PM.
