Facilities Employees Making MIT Work

Whatever has to get done, gets done. If Facilities staff are doing their job well, they often are invisible to the community. The images on this page are meant to give you a peek at the people behind the scenes who keep MIT working.

Melody CravenOur print and web design specialist
Melody Craven has worked in Facilities communications for the last eight years. She delivers print and web communications for the department and MIT as a whole, whether behind a camera, a computer screen, or by means of a poster. During her time here, she has received spotlight awards, shared an MIT team Excellence Award, and most recently received an Infinite Mile Award. Those who have worked with her find her to be “gracious and effective” completing tasks with little “fuss or bother” to get the job at hand done right!

Joe CoccolutoMIT's clean water purveyer
Maintenance Mechanic Joe Coccoluto is a 19-year veteran who knows his way around water. Most recently he helped to spearhead our current Water Treatment Program with Barclay Chemical. His work has helped to minimize potential health issues in people and also to reduce pump and pipe erosion. Joe’s weekly monitoring of the cooling tower’s performance has provided many safeguards. In addition, he has been a strong resource in monitoring the water pools and the equipment that service them.

Deb PuleoShe mails it!
Deb Puleo has been with Facilities since July of 1995 as Mail Services' lead Administrative Assistant. She effortlessly runs the bulk mail operations for the Institute with little to no supervision and she takes care of all billing and charge backs for any processed mail. She also manages various complex pieces of mailing equipment and oversees most all mail jobs. During her time here, Deb has received many awards including an Infinite Mile Award this year. Consider this; if you’ve received mail at MIT today, Deb has probably had a hand in getting it to you.

Dawn SimonelliSteadfastly supporting Facilities
Dawn Simonelli is a seasoned customer service professional. She started with the R&M Support group in Facilities in March of 2000 handling work orders, shutdowns, and customer concerns. In November of 2008 she came on board with the new Customer Service Center. During the past year, she’s led her team by training and educating three new hires who were rotated through two positions. In addition to that and her duties as a Customer Service Coordinator in the CSC, she’s also helped Marty O’Brien with the design and implementation of a new employee training guide.

Scott McNeyThe “first face” of Facilities Headquarters
During the past five years the first person visitors have seen as they enter the second-floor office headquarters of Building NE49 is Scott McNey. Whether he is scheduling meetings for colleagues, making lunch arrangements, or simply helping a new intern, Scott does it all with a relaxing ease. Though he tends to be a man of few words, a favorite part of his job is interacting with people. Senior Administrative Assistant, Mary Harrington, says Scott is “dependable and pleasant”. So, he makes the perfect person to welcome everyone.

Hanna VellaHonored for service over the years
Hanna Vella has been with MIT since 1995 and during her 18-year tenure she has always provided an outstanding level of hard work and dedication. This year Hanna received an Infinite Mile Award and the team that nominated her says that she continually goes above and beyond to make sure that the second floor of Building E40 is in tip top shape. She always lends a hand finding items that they need and does it all with a smile. Congratulations Hanna!

Jarrod Jones Being honored in food waste management
Congratulations to Jarrod Jones, Recycling and Solid Waste Management Supervisor, for his contributions in the EPA’s Food Recovery Challenge. Due in large part to Jarrod’s efforts, the EPA honored MIT with a 2010 and 2011 Food Recovery Challenge Achievement Award. The EPA applauded MIT for its demonstrated commitment to improving sustainable food management practices and for setting a great example by food scraps for higher and better uses.
