Carpool—Reduce Your Travel Costs and CO2 Emissions
GoLoco.org is brought to you by the same MIT alum who founded Zipcar. You can quickly and easily share rides of all distances with friends, neighbors, and coworkers. If people want to share the costs, the site also handles payment from passengers to riders for their share of the trip costs.
GoLoco is right for you if:
- Public transportation is not a viable option for you
- You commute a long distance into work
- You currently go places with your friends and neighbors
- You participate in clubs, group activities, or sports/band/social events
- You attend conferences and want to share taxi or rental car expenses
Car travel is our single largest contribution of CO2 emissions (20% of US emissions). Each time you GoLoco, instead of going solo, you cut your trip contribution in half or better.
To find a ride-share to or from MIT, see the GoLoco map below. Each car icon represents a GoLoco member who is looking for a ride or offering a ride. Click on a car icon to see if that user's details match your ride-share needs. GoLoco members who are looking for a ride will have the phrase "(looking for a ride)" beside their name. Members who are offering a ride will have the phrase "(driving)" beside their name.
To sign up for the MIT/GoLoco ride-sharing program visit www.goloco.org/mit.
Every member has a profile, can create and join groups, comment and read comments about others; see what friends and groups they have in common with others, and is automatically part of the MIT community. Rides can be posted to all GoLoco members, or visible to any subset of people you choose. Of course, you can accept or reject any requests to match.
