Choose a Healthy Alternative: Ride Your Bike to Campus
The compact size of the Boston/Cambridge area makes bicycling a popular mode of transportation for students and employees. In addition to riding on main streets, there are a wealth of paths, parks and bicycle-friendly streets that can make bicycling one of your most efficient, healthy and enjoyable forms of transportation. Since bicycling in traffic can be a challenge, riders should be cautious and follow the rules of the road.
Bicycle Parking and Security
The MIT Police provide several services to help secure bicycles on campus. Bicycle registration is available online or in person. To register your bicycle, all you need is the make, model and serial number. A registration sticker will be mailed through campus mail to you.
The MIT Police also administer a bicycle compound located in the rear of Building 13. A card to access the compound can be purchased at W31-215, for a one time fee of $5.00. In addition, numerous bike racks exist at many campus locations.
Bicycling Safety
Even if you go out for a short ride, you should always wear a helmet. If you are insured through MIT Medical, you can purchase a helmet at a significant discount using this form.
