Call for papers

Abstract submission deadline:

October 1, 2009

FAMLi will be accepting abstracts for presentations in English or Spanish on work pertaining to Mayan languages in any area of formal* linguistics––phonetics, phonology, morphology, syntax, semantics, historical linguistics, language acquisition, etc.  Presentations will be slotted for 30 minutes with 10 minutes for questions.

Abstracts will also be accepted for the FAMLi poster session. The poster session will be devoted both to detailed descriptions of puzzles or interesting data in Mayan languages, as well as work on language documentation and language revitalization.

Abstracts should be one page in length (1 inch margins, at least 11 point font), with an additional page for data and references. Please see the LSA page on abstract-writing guidelines for general tips on abstract writing. Abstracts will be accepted in either English or Spanish. Abstracts should be submitted via the Linguist List EasyAbs page: http://linguistlist.org/confcustom/famli2010

Please contact us with any questions: famli2010@gmail.com

In order to allow sufficient time for international presenters to obtain visas and make travel arrangements, presenters will be notified by: November 30th, 2009

FAMLi especially encourages abstracts from native speaker linguists.

Due to a generous grant from the National Science Foundation, FAMLi will be able to assist with travel expenses for presenters with little or no institutional support.

* The “formal” in FAMLi simply means work that goes beyond description and proposes an analysis of some data problem in a Mayan language or languages. Abstracts are encouraged from any theoretical framework.
