STUDENT INFORMATION

F/ASIP is a graded seminar which offers participating MIT freshmen:

•  Career development training, including resume writing, internship search skills, interviewing, and navigating career fairs

•  Cultivation of professional skills, including networking, presentation and interpersonal communication skills, and

•  Opportunities for finding a summer internship or research experience, helping students connect with MIT alumni mentors and other companies in their industry of interest

The Freshman/Alumni Summer Internship Program (F/ASIP) is a graded seminar exclusively for freshmen. As a first-year student, this seminar will help you cultivate your professional skills, assist you with finding an internship, and pair you with an MIT alumna/us to guide you while interning at their company. Alumni share with you a learning-by-doing philosophy, a propensity for hard work, and methods for tackling difficult problems. They also help educate you on what it takes to survive and thrive in the workplace.

It is important to note that participating in F/ASIP does not guarantee you a summer internship. We provide the opportunity and training for you to connect with employers. Our goal is to teach you valuable career planning and job search skills that will be useful to you throughout your life. To prepare you for your summer internship, F/ASIP conducts a series of mandatory seminars in the fall and spring semesters, preceding your summer internship. You will work on several topics such as: Communication Skills, Leadership Development, Effective Teamwork, Resume Writing, Interviewing Skills, and Networking. You will also be required to complete assignments targeted to improve your oral and written communication skills.

Please visit the Application Process page for more information about F/ASIP and how to apply for the program.
