Four MIT fencers qualified to the Division I NCAA National Championships based on their season performance and their performance at the Regional Championships. The NCAA National Committee selects the Top 24 fencers in the country to represent their schools and fence against the elite in collegiate fencing. Every one of our fencers fenced very hard and served to inspire the entire team.

NCAA Nationals:

Brian Bower 19th- mens sabre
Matt DuPlessie 24th- mens epee
Nora Szasz 14th- womens epee
Aimee Wiltz 23rd- womens foil

To qualify to NCAAs, the four MIT fencers placed in the top 10 in their weapons at the NCAA Regionals, held at Brown University on March 8th, 1999.

NCAA Northeastern Regionals:

Brian Bower 7th- mens sabre
Matt DuPlessie 8th- mens epee
Nora Szasz 2nd- womens epee
Aimee Wiltz 8th- womens foil

Brian came to MIT with limited experience in sabre. Matt, Nora, and Aimee all began fencing at MIT with Jarek. This is the most fencers that MIT has qualified to NCAAs since Jarek became head coach at MIT.
