Francisco Flores-Macías

Welcome!

I am a Ph.D. Candidate in the Department of Political Science at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. My research interests are the political economy of energy and the environment (especially regarding petroleum), the management of state-owned enterprises, public opinion and voting behavior, and survey methodology.

My dissertation uses the cases of Mexico’s national oil company, Petróleos Mexicanos (PEMEX), and Venezuela’s refining firm, Citgo, to analyze the behavior of state-owned energy companies. I have published articles in the International Journal of Public Opinion Research, Review of Policy Research, Community, Work, and Family, and in the Harvard International Review, among other journals. I have also presented my research at diverse forums, such as the Midwest Political Science Association, the Society for the Advancement of Socio-Economics, and the U.S. Association for Energy Economics.

Between 2004 and 2006, I was the research assistant of the Mexico 2006 Panel Study. Previously, I worked as project director for the Transnational Working Families Survey at the Harvard School of Public Health. I have a B.A. in Social Studies from Harvard University.
