The desk number is 253-2871. Things desk might have are as follows: movies, ($1 for a VHS or DVD per night, or free if you watch in Talbot, and bring an ID as collateral,) garbage bags, change, stamps, keys (for the weight room, tool room, darkroom, music room, etc.) foozball, pool table equipment, other random sports equipment, vacuum cleaners, paper towels, roll-away beds, phone books, maps, a photocopier, light bulbs, and some other stuff. They also sell soda. If something is missing from your room, you can try asking about it at the desk. Try not to be a jerk or an idiot and the deskworker will most likely respond within socially acceptable bounds. Break this rule and you're on your own, pal.
You can do your laundry in the basement of the west parallel, just under desk. The washers and dryers are 75 cents a go, and there's a card reader that takes Tech Cash on occasion if it is working. Most reasonably small people and some large people can fit into the dryers. Don't forget to separate your darks and lights!
You can check out bikes from desk. If you have your own, there are bike racks in the basement of the west parallel. You may store your bike there, but be sure to get it tagged at desk first or it may be auctioned off over the summer!
Right now, you have two: an HFZ for the building doors, and one for your room with its own unique triplet of letters. Apparently some folks also get closet keys. Lucky bastards.
In order to request a static IP address, network help, or network stuff in general, you need to go to http://rcc.mit.edu/.
At the end of the year, you don't have to take all of your possessions home. The Institute allows us to store our belongings in the cages in the basement, at our own risk. Just pack your stuff in boxes. You may wish to line the boxes with a plastic bag to protect from the threat of water damage. The cages require a key to get in which you can retrieve from desk. The hall designates one room to store refrigerators and carpets for the summer. The fridge room will be locked all summer. Another approach is bribing your friends who are staying over the summer to agree to watch some items for you.
Also known as Friday Afternoon Clubs. Every Friday at 5:30, or so, a different EC hall sponsors a social/food event in Talbot lounge. This isn't quite out of the goodness of our fun-lovin' hearts, the dorm gives us money to spend on this, but hey, it's cool anyway.
