Majors & Careers
It's never too early to start thinking about your future. Freshman year is a great opportunity for you to explore career choice, meet with staff in the Global Education and Career Development Center, check out online resources (both within the Global Education and Career Development Center site and outside MIT). Search the web and explore the possibilities, so that you can make a more informed choice.
- Career Counseling: The Global Education and Career Development Center assists students from all departments and has staff available to guide you through your career transition. Staff are available to meet with you individually, by appointment, to discuss any aspect of your career development. To schedule an initial appointment with a counselor, call 617-253-4733 or drop by 12-170.
- Global Education and Career Development Center Career Workshops: GECDC staff host a variety of workshops to assist you in career decision making and planning from Self-Assessment: Finding a Place to Start and Networking 101 to Negotiating Your Future: Successfully Evaluating and Negotiating Your Job Offers. From the GECDC site you can view workshop offerings, register to attend, or review online versions of the workshops of interest to you, so check out what they have to offer!
- Preprofessional Advising: Interested in Med School or Law School? Preprofessional Advising staff work with students interested in applying to medical, dental, and other health related professional schools, as well as those interested in applying to law school.
- Special Seminars and Events: GECDC offers special events throughout the year,. The schedule currently listed online includes all Spring 2007events.
- Mock Interviews: GECDC staff also assist students with interviewing skills. Mock interviews are 30-minute individual sessions with a career assistant to help you prepare and strategize for future interviews. Procedures for scheduling a mock interview are outlined on the Global Education and Career Development Center site.
- On-line Career Library: A variety of resources for students considering their career options and this site introduces you to a variety of on-line information to help you with your career decision-making.
- Resources By School: Major guides organized according to MIT Schools. These guides provide helpful information on the various skills and attributes you can gain in given majors and offer some suggestions for potential careers.
